Unemployed still after mining jobs

ZONGULDAK – Doğan News Agency
Almost half of the 10,482 unemployed people in the Black Sea province of Zonguldak, the heart of coal mining in Turkey, would like to work in the mines, according to the head of the local employment office.

Many prefer to work at the Türkiye Taşkömürü Kurumu (TTK), the state company, because the working conditions and salaries are poorer with the private companies, Gönül Demirsu, the Labor and Employment Manager for the company, told Doğan News Agency.

“The demand in vacancies at the TTK is very high, but it falls when a private company is looking for employees,” he said.
