U.N. monitors trying to get to the scene of a new massacre in Syria were shot at, U.N. leader Ban Ki-moon said today, calling the latest atrocity "shocking and sickening."

Ban told of the attack on the U.N. monitors in a speech to the U.N. General Assembly when he said that Syria's President Bashar al-Assad had "lost all legitimacy."

Annan expresses 'horror' at new Syria massacre

International envoy Kofi Annan, meanwhile, expressed his "horror and condemnation" at the new massacre in Syria and called for a "new level" of international action to halt the violence.

Annan made his condemnation in a speech to the UN General Assembly hours after the reported killing of scores of people in the Syrian village of Al-Kubeir.
