Two students were injured at Atatürk University in Erzurum on May 20, after a violent clash erupted between rival student groups, Doğan News Agency has reported.

The students clashed after tension rose following a quarrel between students and a policeman at the university’s canteen at around 3.30 p.m. Eighteen students were reportedly detained after the policeman was hit by a chair during the melee.

Two people were beaten by a rival group during the subsequent clashes, which erupted after students gathered for protests.

Police forces then intervened in the incident and dispersed the students. An investigation has been launched to apprehend the students who were involved in the clashes.
