Two soldiers were killed and seven soldiers were wounded late last night in clashes with suspected members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the eastern province of Hakkari, Doğan news agency has reported.

The clashes occurred in Bağlar village of the province's Şemdinli district when military forces came across militants in a rural area.

The wounded soldiers were taken to Hakkari Military Hospital.

An operation supported by the Air Force has been launched to apprehend the assailants while reinforcements have been dispatched to the area.

The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States.
