Two retired generals put in prison

ANKARA - Hürriyet Daily News
Retired four star generals Teoman Koman and Kamuran Orhon were arrested yesterday as part of the ongoing Feb. 28 post-modern coup investigation, after the prosecutor objected to their release by the court last week.

The Ankara Public Prosecutors’ office detained Koman and Orhon in late-May and had sent them to the Ankara 12th heavy penal court, with a request of arrest. The court had released Koman due to his poor health situation and Orhon due to lack sufficient evidence.

The prosecutors’ office objected the decision and asked for their arrest. The court released a warrant of arrest two days ago, and both retired generals were then arrested yesterday.

The Feb. 28 process military memorandum refers to the decisions issued by Turkish military leaders at an MGK meeting on Feb. 28, 1997, which initiated the Feb. 28 process that precipitated the resignation of former Prime Minister Erbakan of the Welfare Party and the end of his coalition government.
