Two injured, five detained after skiers brawl during Turkish national team trials

Five athletes were detained after two were injured in a brawl in the ski hub of Palandöken in the eastern province of Erzurum on Dec. 12, during trials for the Turkish national team.

The fight erupted after an argument over one athlete allegedly restricting another trialist on purpose during a race.

As tempers flared some of the athletes on the piste pulled knives on each other, while others used batons and skis during national team trials organized by the Turkey Ski Federation.

Police intervened to break up the fight among the skiers, in which one athlete and one trainer were injured and taken to hospital.

Five people were detained over the brawl.

The police have reportedly opened an investigation into the incident and the trials will continue.
