Two people are in critical condition after the pier of a five-star hotel collapsed in Turkey’s western province of Aydın on May 5.

The vacationers were on the pier made of cement when it suddenly collapsed.

Health, security and fire units rushed to the scene and rescued eight people from the sea.

Two people were then taken to a nearby hospital in ambulances.

A probe was opened into the incident.

“The pier which collapsed is an old one,” said Mehmet Türköz, governor of the Didim district

“Cement piers are not allowed to be constructed,” he added, saying they were investigating who built the pier that collapsed and when.
