Turkey’s national women’s volleyball team will try to maintain its form when it rolls into the semifinals of the European qualification for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Turkey has won all three of its games to lead Pool A, and will meet the runner-up of Pool B, which will be decided after the Netherlands plays Russia. The game was still in progress as the Hürriyet Daily News
went to print on May 4.
Poland will meet Germany as the winner of Pool B, unless Russia
beats the Netherlands in three sets. The winners of both semifinals will meet in the final on May 6. The qualifying tournament matches are being played in Ankara, the Turkish capital.
Turkey has not been represented at the Olympics in team sports since the 1960 Rome Olympics. Prior to that date, the country was represented six times in football and twice in basketball team. No Turkish volleyball team has played in the Olympics before.
