Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has canceled a planned visit to New York for the U.N. General Assembly due to preparations for his party’s upcoming convention and a busy schedule, his office has said.

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu will represent Turkey at the United Nations instead, the statement said.

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) will hold its fourth congress on Sept. 30.
