Turkish officer killed in clashes in country's southeast

A first lieutenant was killed in clashes between security forces and suspected militants from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) today.Security forces clashed with PKK militants near Derecik village in the Şemdinli district of the southeastern Hakkari province.
A specialist sergeant was also wounded in the clashes.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
