Turkish lawmakers grant themselves ‘lifetime diplomatic passports’

Ruling party lawmakers have submitted a motion to parliament to grant themselves lifetime diplomatic passports. The motion was passed on late March 7, but still needs to be adopted at the general assembly as part of an omnibus bill.

The lawmakers of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) motion asked for a change in passport law so that the former MPs will be able to hold diplomatic passports along with former ministers. The spouses of lawmakers and their children, until the age of 25 if they are unemployed, will also have the right to hold diplomatic passports.
