The Turkish military jet that went down off Syrian coast on June 22 was shot down by the Russians, not the Syrian military, an opposition party leader has claimed.

“There are currently two Russian war ships and a Russian frigate in Latakia harbor,” Masum Türker, leader of the Democratic Left Party (DSP) said today in an interview with TV8. “One of them, Admiral Chabanenko, has the technology to detect the slightest action in the air.”

Türker said Russian warship Admiral Chabanenko hit the Turkish jet that went down on June 22.
“The vessel that shot down our plane is Chabanenko, it is the most equipped vessel of the three,” Türker said, arguing that the foreign ministry and the foreign intelligence services have this information.

An unarmed Turkish military plane conducting a test mission was shot down by Syria on June 22. Turkey claims the plane was shot down in international airspace with a laser or heat-guided missile. Syria, however, says they shot the plane down with anti-aircraft guns as the plane flew within Syrian airspace at an altitude of 100 meters.

Remember the Montreux Convention of 1936. I don't like this treaty at all. Russia would have to fly to get to Syria without this stupid treaty. I would like Turkey to move away from this treaty. The panama canal makes tons of money for it's country yet we get NOTHING from this stupid deal.

Please think very carefully about the claims of the Russian ship (s). Firstly how did the Admiral Chabanenko get to Syria all the way from the Barents Sea without anybody noticing? Also take with a pinch of salt the claims of the other Russian warships in Syria. Remember that these are claims from an opposition leader! Chabanenko has not left the Northern Fleet since its major exercise with the Norwegians.

There is possibly one thing worse than not knowing the truth and that is trying to 'fix the truth'! Caution is needed although the fact that the Russians are so active in the region cannot be overlooked.

we will never learn the truth. The scenarios can become more and more imaginative but the truth will never come to the surface. Each one of the implicated part will 'fix' the story according to its interest as usual, so why bother to know the truth?

I would also think that it was the Russians.

There is no radio logs? Did the pilots even say they were being targeted? Antiaircraft guns are not going to take out a plane with one shot. So our radar can't tell where it was launched? so many questions.

IT WAS THE AMERICANS. NO, WAIT, THE BRITISH. NO! ALIENS! The stories get better and better. It would be nice if someone just told the truth.

Theres nothing Turkiye can do if Russia shot it down. If its the case, NATO will also say: "Turkey someone shot down your plane? Oh really? Well we not in it if its Russia...lets just invade Syria, the easy targets"...Turkey then "Aha your right lets go after Assad and I will pull out from Azerbaijan before they shoot another one down"

Rubbish the russians are not stupid and would not do that. The russians(soviets) learnt that shooting down unarmed aircraft is not a good idea after they shot down the korean jumbo jet. The russians would only shoot down a plane in self defence so it is utter rubbish to say the russians did this it was a crazy syrian military commander showing his love to assad the butcher.

All those claims and accusationsso far suppositionw or grandstanding for political reasons. Just let us assume that the aircraft was flying at an altitude of 100 meters, then i willing to buy the Syrian version that it was brought down by ordinary AA gunery, a extremelly lucky shot! If Naval ships of Russia had a hand in it, their Deep Sea Divers, in Syrian Terretorial Waters must have by now obliterated all evidence of their involvement. We will never know!
