Turkish General Staff denies reports of admirals’ resignation

The Turkish General Staff denied resignation claims earlier today with a statement on its website.

The Turkish General Staff denied claims in some media reports that some admirals in the Turkish Naval Forces resigned in a statement today.

“Some media outlets claim that some admirals in the Turkish Naval Forces have resigned and give the names and post locations of these admirals. Those allegations are untrue,” the General Staff wrote on its website today.

The allegations came after the Navy commander, Adm. Nusret Güner, resigned in December 2012 reportedly in protest of the extended arrests of officers under his command, including seven commodores, four rear admirals, two vice admirals and numerous captains and lower-ranking soldiers. Güner’s chief of staff, Rear Adm. Kemalettin Gür, had resigned earlier in the year.
