Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has met with his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj during the latter’s official visit to Ankara.

The two ministers held a closed door meeting on the afternoon of Jan. 16 at the Foreign Ministry building in the capital after briefly posing for photographers.

“We discussed bilateral relations and regional, global issues,” Çavuşoğlu wrote on his Twitter account on Jan. 16.

Meanwhile, Çavuşoğlu is set to visit Kuwait, Qatar and Yemen in the coming days, his ministry announced on Jan. 16.

His schedule will start on Jan. 17 in Kuwait, where he will spend two days discussing regional and international developments with Kuwaiti officials.

“He is expected to be received by the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Jaber III al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah,” a statement from the ministry said.

Çavuşoğlu will then head to Qatar on Jan. 19, where he will meet with his Qatari counterpart Khaled bin Mohamed al-Attiyah; Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Bin Khalifa al-Thani, and Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani.

His visit to Qatar comes just a month after Qatari intelligence chief Jassem al-Thani’s talks with Egyptian officials in Cairo to prepare for an upcoming joint summit between President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

Çavuşoğlu’s final stop will be in Yemen on Jan. 20, when he will hold meetings with Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Mohammed al-Saidi, President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and Prime Minister Khaled Bahah.
