Turkish Cypriot President Derviş Eroğlu is in Ankara to discuss the much-delayed new round of unification talks and bilateral relations between the two countries.

Eroğlu met with President Abdullah Gül and scheduled to have talks with Parliament speaker Cemil Çiçek and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

United Nations Special Adviser Alexander Downer met with negotiators of Greek and Turkish Cypriots on Jan. 15 for a final round of meetings before he briefs the U.N. Security Council on Jan. 22 on the failure to agree on a joint declaration.

Turkish Cypriots presented Downer a proposal for a joint statement in order to launch reunification talks, but Greek Cypriots have not responded yet.
