The Turkish Armed Forces began yesterday its Anatolian Eagle Exercises, one of the most critical maneuvers on its calendar, daily Milliyet reported.

The war games theater was extended to the Mediterranean in addition to Central Anatolia this year as the Turkish Navy joined the operation for the first time in its history.

Sources claimed that the inclusion of the Turkish Naval Force was a move against the "Nobre Dina" exercises recently conducted by Greece, Israel and the United States in the eastern Mediterranean.

The operation is designed to ensure coordination between the air and naval forces in the event of a possible conflict in the eastern Mediterranean.

The operation will run until April 13.
