Turkey is prepared to answer with more force against Syria if mortars from the Arab republic continue to hit Turkish territory, Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Özel told reporters today.

Speaking from the border town of Akçakale, Özel said "Turkey already responded, and will respond even stronger" if attacks continued.

"We are here, and we are standing tall," Özel said.

Özel then visited the houses of five civilians who were killed by Syrian shelling in the town on Oct. 3

@Turk Uzan, I don't really know about connections between Israel and the PKK. What I do know is that Israel is blamed for a lot of things - especially the Mossad, including 9.11, including the Holocaust that according to Iran never happened and was a myth to create Israel... this goes back to the times where Jews were blamed for killing Christian children and making bread from their blood...

Foreigner 10000 rockets are not disproportional, and please stop the nonsense about usually kids getting hurt. That's a lie and anyone can search to see the numbers. Americans and NATO allies admit that Israel has been way high in not hurting civilians as opposed to western forces in Afghanistan or Iraq. Time to stop the lies. Check your sources.

Turkey (Erdogan) has been weak since the beginning on the whole issue, tough talk now it pretty much worthless. If the military had its way I guarentee you Syria would not think twice about shelling over the border. "Tyranny is always better organized than freedom. – Charles Peguy"

Anyway, RIP for every single victim of terror, no matter what country or religion, terror should always be shunned, PKK, Hamas etc. any organization who believes it will achieve it's goals trough innocent blood. @ Niko's, 12 to 18 year old boys, dressed in uniforms made of army tents with no no boots, food, water or medicine defeated the Greek army back in the day neighbor ... do not underestimate our armed forces ...

@ Uri and Uziel, you guys do realize Israel has supported the PKK in the past at a time when relations were actually very good. Please read “The Mossad in Iraq” by Shlomo Nakdimon" also dozens of high ranking PKK members have confessed having been trained by Mossad, which is one of the biggest reasons why Israel has a negative image in Turkey. @ Rich, more Israelis died of a Peanut allergy than Hamas attacks according to Haaretz or Jpost (don't remember)

Mr Chief of staff will you please bother to investigate who is firing these mortars? You already destroyed Syria through your terrorists. Now want to bring your NATO allies to destroy what left behind. Turkish public is more aware and up dated then this blind and oppressive government. Its only public pressure and election other wise Sultan might have started war with Syria and destroy one more ex-brother country.

@Foreigner. Maybe you haven't noticed but lots of Israeli children have been killed by the peace loving followers of Hamas. If more Israelis are not killed or injured its not because the Palestinians aren't trying. In fact they specifically target women & children. Israel goes out of its way to avoid injury to civilians, often at risk to its own soldiers. But, as Turkey will soon learn, that is hard to do when enemy fire comes from schools, apartment buildings, etc.
