Turkey would be willing to lean on Hamas to halt rocket attacks on Israel if the United States “provides guarantees,” Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said today in Istanbul ahead of his departure to Cairo for talks on Hamas-Israel violence.

Following pressure from Washington for Turkey to put an end to Hamas’ attacks, Erdoğan said Ankara would be willing to do so on condition that the U.S. provide guarantees but did not elaborate what kind of guarantee Turkey would like to see.

"Israel is breaking the cease-fire in Gaza. We want an immediate cease-fire. Some 40 people have been killed on the Gazan side up until now, but the Israeli government sets the world on fire when three Israeli people die," Erdoğan said at the airport.

Erdoğan has spoken to U.S. President Barack Obama, Hamas Chairman Khaled Mashaal and Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi on the ongoing Israeli air strikes on Gaza.

Erdoğan will meet Morsi and give a speech at Cairo University as part of his trip to Egypt.

Following a Turkey-Egypt High Level Strategic Cooperation Council Meeting, Erdoğan is expected to give a joint press conference with Egyptian Prime Minister Hesham Mohamed Qandil.

Every time an election comes up in Israel, the attacks on Palestine begin. I am suspicious about who was really responsible for that first missile fired from Gaza. There is a picture on facebook. Top half shows Israeli children putting signatures on missiles that will be fired on Gaza, bottom half shows the effects of those missiles on Palestinian children. We live in a very sick world.

Well I don't know what a sudden ceasefire will achieve. If there is one. It needs to written into it that from the ceasefire on, the agreed policy will be Rocket for Rocket. Hamas fires one Israel fires back one. Unfortunately they cannot be measured in size and length. . Israel does not possess backyard rockets. David Salinger---Trinidad

The cycle starts like this actually: Israel chooses a time suited for internal and external purposes to blow up an opponent of Israel in broad day light, usually taking out a few bystanders also. No coirts, no judges, no due process. Arabs get incensed....

Erdogan got his 15 minutes of fame in Arab press. Gerard you're 100% right. Ilker Avni is time to change your tape. Advice for Erdogan: do not support the terrorist organizations it looks ridiculous.

Israel broke the cease fire with Hamas, after killing a unarmed Palenstinian with mental health problems on the fourth of November a few days later they killed a child, then Hamas jihad fighter shot a missile at a Israeli jeep. The lies Israel comes out with to justify they invasion of Gaza is pure and simple so Netanhayu can win the up coming elections. They is no reason for Israel to invade Gaza other than to win votes at the elections. The Arabs are uniteing against israel with one voice.

Southern Israeli- the cycle restarts: first the missiles start, once a week, like a drop of water. Then the drip increases, with several a week, then once a day (usually at 8:00 when schools open), then several a day and casualties start, then we carry out an operation, trying to harm the Terrorists that shoot at us while the Arab world and other "political leaders" (e.g. Erdogan) slam us, then rockets fire stops as terrorists crashed. Then half a year of normal life. Then the missiles start...

Turkey does not have much control or influence over Hamas. Not sure where this pipe dream comes from.
