Turkey longs for Italy’s top pasta exporter seat

Turkey, the second pasta exporter in the world after Italy, has eyes on Italy’s seat at top.

Turkish pasta exporters have been alarming their counterparts in Italy, the top pasta exporter of the world, by exporting to 146 countries oversees, aiming to achieve the ambitious target of exporting 650,000 tons in a year.

“Turkish pasta producers have a mission to leave Italy behind as they have begun to reap the outcomes of the efforts to earn surplus from the locally produced pastas and branding of them,” Turkey Pasta Industrialists Association board member Mehmet Karakuş said. Despite Italy’s advantageous position, thanks to its stable export potential, the Turkish pasta sector has grown by over 30 percent for three consecutive years, Karakuş said.
