Turkey has a strong resilience and great growth potential, despite shirt-term volatility, Japan’s Ambassador to Ankara Akio Miyajima told Hürriyet Daily News calling for concrete measures for stability of Turkish economy.

“I just came back from a conference in Vienna with 300 Japanese business people. I did my best efforts to tell them despite shirt-term volatility, Turkey has a strong resilience and great growth potential,” said the ambassador.

The ambassador said that the Japanese business people are “Now looking forward to hearing assuring, concrete measures to be announced in September and implemented for more stability of Turkish economy.

Turkey’s imports from Japan totaled roughly $4.7 billion, while its exports there came to about $400 million.

Turkey is a major player in the Middle East, with one of the region’s largest economies and a population of roughly 80 million. It is a popular investment destination for such companies as Toyota Motor, which uses it as a hub for exporting to and investing in Europe and other nearby markets.

Japanese investment in Turkey has increased the past five years, as 28 Japanese companies entered the country through mergers and acquisitions.

In March, then Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekçi said, 2018 would be a historical milestone in economic and commercial ties between Turkey and Japan stressing that the trade volume between the two countries should rise four or five-folds from its current level of $4.7 billion.
