Turkey has expressed its concern over the release of three suspects in the ongoing case on the murder of eight Turks by a far-right group called the National Socialist Underground (NSU) in Germany between 2000 and 2006, and called on the authorities to properly punish those responsible.

Turkey had been closely monitoring the German investigation, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The ministry said the recent release of three suspects had given rise to concerns over the potential release of other suspects in the future.

“It is our rightful expectation from the German authorities that they will conduct the investigation attentively and punish the criminals as deserved, following a fair judicial process,” the ministry’s statement said.

Last November it was revealed that the NSU was responsible for the killings of eight shop-owners of Turkish origin, one German of Greek origin, and one German policewoman.
