Trabzon clinches 1-0 away win against Dinamo Minsk in Europa League third round

Brazilian striker Henrique was also the star for his team during the second qualifying round against Derry City

Trabzonspor has put itself in the driving seat of its Europa League third qualifying round tie against Dinamo Minsk after winning the first leg in Belarus thanks to a solitary goal by the team's in-form striker Henrique.

The Brazilian found the net in the 41st minute after successive unsuccessful attacks by the visitors. Henrique could have doubled the score in the 81st minute but his shot on the edge of the area smashed the post.

The Belarusians’ best opportunity in the game came in the 55th minute when Lazar Veselinovic sent the ball onto the post in a one-on-one with Trabzon’s goalkeeper Onur Kıvrak. The ball bounced in front of Carlos Coto but Czech defender Ondrej Celustka managed to prevent him from shooting.

Trabzonspor’s newly signed French star, Florent Malouda, made his debut in the 60th minute.

The return game will be played in Trabzon on Aug. 8.

The Black Sea Storm started the competition in the second qualifying round, in which they ousted Northern Irish side Derry City 7-2 on aggregate.

Meanwhile Bursaspor salvaged a valuable 2-2 draw away in Serbia to Vojvodina thanks to a last-gasp equalizer by its new star, Taye Taiwo.

Pablo Batalla opened the scoring on a penalty for the Crocodiles in the first half. But Vojvodina overturned the deficit with goals by Miroslav Vulicevic in the 71st minute and Abubacar Oumaru in the 81st.

But the former AC Milan and Dynamo Kyiv player Taiwo’s header in the 90th minute gave Bursa an away-goals advantage before the home game on Aug. 8.
