A group of teachers staged a demonstration in the western province of Kütahya on April 20 to protest the stabbing of one of their colleagues by a student at a vocational high school in the city.

The teachers gathered in front of the Kütahya Technical and Industrial Vocational High School where the incident took place and marched toward the Governor’s Office in the city’s Zafer Square. The demonstrators later dispersed of their own accord, after issuing a public statement.

Suspect T.D., 18, turned himself into the police on the day of the incident and was later arrested. The teacher he attacked, Hakan Gülhan, 37, is still hospitalized, although he is no longer in critical condition, according to reports. 12th-grade student T.D. allegedly stabbed electronics teacher Gülhan in the chest on April 18, because Gülhan did not allow him into the classroom when he arrived late for class.
