Taksim route closed until Feb 15

Tarlabaşı Boulevard, one of Taksim’s main roads, will be closed for construction until Feb. 15, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has announced in a recent press release.The road, which runs to Taksim Square, is a vital route for drivers. The road had been previously reduced to a single lane for the Taksim renewal project, and will be closed down completely.
The road will be officially closed Jan. 25 and will remain closed until Feb. 15.
The closing will overlap with schools’ semester breaks to limit the inconvenience for students and parents alike, according to the official statement.
Buses, however, will continue making U-turns from the boulevard as before, and pedestrians will not be affected by the changes.
The single lane will be opened again once the construction is done.
The much-debated Taksim renewal project began in November. Long traffic jams and frequently altered public transportation routes have been making life difficult for Istanbul residents.
The construction is expected to end by June.
