Suspected PKK members abduct local official in southeast Turkey

DİYARBAKIR
A village governor in the southeastern province of Hakkari has been abducted by suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), the Turkish Armed Forces said in a statement released March 2.

Abdurrahman Ecer, 50, is the head of the village of Çığlı, near the Iraqi border in the remote province of Hakkari, sources said.

Ecer was reportedly taken at gunpoint and has not been heard from since Feb. 28. The PKK has not claimed responsibility.

An investigation has been launched into the incident upon an order from the local public prosecutor.
