Students are ignorant of Turkish poets

An opposition lawmaker has claimed the ruling party has not solved any problems in terms of education in 9 years of power.Ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) could not solve any kind of education problems, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Balıkesir MP Ahmet Duran Bulut said at the Turkish Grand National Embassy.
A poll carried out in schools revealed only 49 percent of male students and 41 percent of female students know poet and leading Turkish figure Mehmet Akif Ersoy, but 70 percent of male students and 91 percent of female students know Angelina Jolie, Bulut said.
Speaking after Bulut, Ankara MP Zuhal Topçu said students wander around carrying stress because of the university entrance examinations. This is a problem of vision and the education performance of Turkey is very low, Topçu said. The latest decision on university entrance exam and the latest system is a correct decision, because everyone will have the same coefficient, she added.
