SNC aims to represent Syria at OIC

CAIRO - Anatolia News Agency
After the Arab League, the Syrian National Coalition (SNC) has indicated that it aims to represent the Syrian people at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as well.

“If the SNC gets the right to represent the Syrian people at the OIC, then we will appeal to assume a seat at the United Nations with the support of OIC,” SNC President George Sabra told reporters. He also said some OIC member countries had vowed support for them. The secretary-general of the coalition, Mustafa Sabbagh, said the SNC had started working on this matter but that it is for the OIC to determine when to give them the right of representation. This might either be with a recent extraordinary meeting or at the ordinary OIC Summit.

The OIC said in a written statement that if the SNC appeals for representation, their demand will be examined by the member states and they will decide when to give the SNC a seat. The SNC represented the Syrian people at the Arab League Summit held in the Qatari capital of Doha March 26 to 27.
