SİYAD Award ceremony to be organized Jan 16

The Cinema Writers Association (SİYAD) 44th Turkish Cinema Awards will take place Jan. 16 at Istanbul’s Harbiye Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall.

Selecting from Turkish films released during 2011, critics have created a shortlist of 70 movies to be considered for the 11 different categories at the ceremony, including Best Foreign Film, Best Short Film, Best Documentary and The Ahmet Uluçay Hope Award.

The Best Actress Performance Award will be presented in memory of unforgettable Turkish actress Cahide Sonku while the prize for Best Script Award will remember scriptwriter Mahmut Tali Öngören.

The winners of the SİYAD awards will be decided upon by the votes of 89 members of the Cinema Writers Association, with the nominees for each category to be announced Jan. 5.
