The Turkish military has “neutralized” six militants in northern Iraq, it stated on May 25.

“Six armed terrorists were neutralized in an air operation conducted in the Hakurk area in northern Iraq on May 25,” the Turkish General Staff wrote on its official Twitter account.

The Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized” in their statements to imply that the terrorists in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.

The outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey as well as the U.S. and the EU, has been operating camps in northern Iraq for decades.

The Turkish military has been conducting operations inside northern Iraq territory near the border since March.
