Shift in code complicates foreign residency in Turkey

ISTANBUL - Hürriyet Daily News
Foreigners without a residence permit will only be able to remain in Turkey for either 90 consecutive days or 90 days spread out over a span of six months as of Feb. 1.

This is a change from the previous law, which allowed foreigners without a residence permit to stay in Turkey for 90 days, leave the country for a short period of time and then return for another 90-day period.

This will no longer be feasible, according to the new regulation.

The change is based on a new regulation published in the Official Gazette on Oct. 24, 2011.

Turkey is attracting unregistered workers from all around the world in many fields including babysitting, housekeeping, English teaching and industry.
