Shepherd in Turkey’s Batman sets fire to minibus hitting herd, killing 42 sheep

A shepherd has set fire to a minibus, after the driver lost control and hit his herd of sheep, killing 42 of them in the southeastern Turkish province of Batman.

The incident occurred on the Batman-Güney highway on Feb. 20. The driver of the minibus lost control of the vehicle and drove it into a herd of sheep that was about to cross the road. Forty-two sheep and six people were injured, including the driver and a shepherd.

After the crash a fight broke out between the shepherd and the passengers on the minibus, which police at the scene dispersed with warning shots.

Angry at the killing of his sheep, the shepherd reportedly set the minibus alight.

All people injured in the incident were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Fire crews were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the minibus that had been set ablaze.

Police have started an investigation into the incident.
