Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) on July 8 defended the removal of the country's Central Bank head.

"The removal was within the rights that was entitled to the president," deputy party chair Mehmet Muş told reporters in parliament.

Denying allegations that the removal was "unlawful," and "illegal", Muş said any discussion on the matter was "out of question."

Former Turkish Central bank Governor Murat Çetinkaya was dismissed from his post early on July 6 via presidential decree, to be replaced by deputy governor Murat Uysal.
