RedHack launches cyber attack on Istanbul Special Provincial Administration

ISTANBUL

The Turkish hacker group Redhack announced early June 28 that they had hacked into the Istanbul Special Provincial Administration’s website and written off the debts of most of the public institutions.

Redhack tweeted this morning about hacking the website of the Istanbul Special Provincial Administration, Turkish daily Radikal reported on its website. The hacker group cleared the electricity, internet connection, water, natural gas and phone debts of most of the public institutions to the state.

Redhack also published the administrative password of the website through Twitter and called their followers to join in.

Following the attack, the website was shut out for any further access.

Redhack tweeted that they had erased and added things in various systems without anyone noticing it. “I am afraid no one will know, no one will be able to know,” Redhack’s tweet read.

Apart from the hack attack, some fake public institutions were established in the name of the deceased during the Gezi Park protests. A fake school was founded with the name “Abdullah Cömert Elementary School,” referring to the protester who was killed in Turkey’s southern Hatay on June 3 during clashes with the police.
