President Gül meets Özal’s widow and son

ISTANBUL - Hürriyet Daily News
Turkey’s President Abdullah Gül met late President Turgut Özal’s widow Semra Özal and son Ahmet Özal yesterday. Özal’s family had requested to meet with Gül after a report resurrected a row over the leader’s 1993 death by calling it “suspicious.” Neither Gül nor the Özal family made any comments on the meeting.
The report was released June 13 even though Özal’s successor, Süleyman Demirel, dismissed claims that he was assassinated.

Özal, who did not have any known chronic or serious illnesses, died unexpectedly on April 17, 1993, while in office. Semra Özal said earlier that there were strong suspicions that her husband had been poisoned.
Turkey’s State Audit Board (DDK) said last week that the death of Turkish President Turgut Özal is “suspicious” and should be reinvestigated.
