A policeman who was heavily wounded during an operation against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Sur district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakır on Jan. 27 has succumbed to his injuries. 

The policeman, whose identity was not disclosed to the press, was one of six security personnel wounded on Jan. 27 after PKK snipers opened fire.

While three soldiers and a police officer succumbed to their injuries at Diyarbakır Military Hospital on Jan. 27, the death of the unidentified policeman raised the death toll to five. 

Meanwhile, the curfew in place in several neighborhoods of the Sur district has been extended to five other nearby neighborhoods and a main road, the Sur District Governor’s Office announced on Jan. 27. The curfew will now include Sur’s Abdaldede, Alipaşa, Lalebey, Süleyman Nazif and Ziya Gökalp neighborhoods, as well as Melihahmet Street.
