Legendary Japanese musician Kitaro, who is regarded as a pioneer of New Age music, will be in Istanbul for a concert March 4 at the Haliç Congress Center as part of a continuing world tour. He will be accompanied by a 36-person large orchestra.

The winner of a Grammy Award and a Golden Globe Award, Kitaro started his solo career in 1977. The Japanese documentary series “The Silk Road: The Rise and Fall of Civilizations” was first aired April 7, 1980, and was broadcast over a 10-year period. It took 17 years in production to complete what many consider a landmark in Japan’s broadcasting television history. The documentary was narrated by Ishizaka Koji, with music composed by Kitaro. The series of soundtracks sold millions and the success created from the program brought Kitaro international attention.
