The 25-year-old suspect, identified by police sources only as Harun G., robbed a jewelery store in Istanbul’s Kağıthane district on Nov. 22.
The robber threatened the jeweler, a 51-year-old man identified only as İbrahim A., and forced him to close the shutters of the shop.
The jeweler tried to stop the robber when he was loading his bag with gold. The physical struggle inside the closed shop continued for 45 minutes before the robber handcuffed the jeweler. The jeweler then managed to unlock the handcuff and resisted again. The robber stabbed him four times and ran away in the end.
A relative of İbrahim A., who was walking to the jewelery shop, noticed the robber on the run, followed him and caught him.
“I have been unemployed for the past year. I have debt. I was inspired by the American movies I watch frequently and decided to plan this heist,” the suspect told the police.
