Turkey hosts most intact Amazon sarcophagus

The sarcophagus with figures of females soldiers fighting Greek soldiers is exhibited at the Kütahya Archaeology Museum.
"It is a 1858-year-old sarcophagus. It is known that there are 20 other sarcophagi in the world. However, the most intact sarcophagus of the world is in Kutahya," Metin Türktüzün, director of Kütahya Museum, told the state-run Anadolu Agency.
Türktüzün said the sarcophagus was partly found by treasure hunters in the ancient city of Aizanoi in Cavdarhisar district of Kutahya in 1990.
The museum later rescued the sarcophagus during an excavation and fixed the broken parts, he added.
"We see having the most intact sarcophagus in Kutahya as an important value in terms of tourism and archaeology," Türktüzün said.
