A large number of people are traveling to the country’s major tourist resort towns while others travel to their hometowns to meet relatives to celebrate the holy feast.
Most vacationers and travelers, who merged the weekend with the Feast of Sacrifice holiday, hit the roads in the evening of Aug. 18, even though the Feast of Sacrifice holiday began on Aug. 21.
A total of 51 people have been killed and 244 injured in 67 road accidents between Aug. 18 and Aug. 20, Demirören News Agency reported.
Since the start of the long holiday, Aug. 19 marked the deadliest day. Twenty-one people were killed and 90 others were injured in 20 accidents on that day. On Aug. 18, the death toll was 17.
Some 122 people lost their lives in road accidents during the 10-day Feast of Sacrifice holiday last year.
