According to local media reports on Feb. 4, the British citizen identified only as Melanie Jane Ş. told local officials that her husband kicked her out of their house with her dog in the Fethiye district.
The woman went to the Dalaman district and lived at the local animal shelter for four days.
“I had met my husband Osman two years ago. He is a sports trainer. We married, but he started to use violence against me and my dog. He threatened me and didn’t let me return to my country,” Melanie Jane Ş. was quoted as saying.
With the help of Turkish animal rights activists, the woman returned to Britain after leaving her dog in the shelter in Turkey.
“Our door is open to everyone. We had first thought that she would be leaving the dog to us and return to Britain. When she said that she would be staying on the street, we hosted her for four days. She was in a desperate situation. We couldn’t just leave them like that,” animal rights activist Türkan Dağdelen said.
