Parliament’s food waste to feed animals

ANKARA
Meals will be provided for 500 homeless people and 4,000 shelter animals through the Turkish Parliament’s General Secretariat’s project to prevent food waste on the large parliamentary campus, where 8,000 people are served meals daily.

According to parliamentary data, 500 portions of meals prepared daily remain at the end of the day. These 500 portions are being donated to homeless people staying either at a hotel commissioned by the Ankara Governorship or living on the streets. Some of these remaining portions are also sent to the Demetevler Oncology Hospital’s complex for patients’ relatives.

Dish waste and leftover food are finding their way to the Meliha Yılmaz Foundation Dog Shelter in the Gölbaşı neighborhood of Ankara by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality vehicles.
