Paris court sentences 15 suspected DHKP/C members to up to seven years in jail

PARIS – Anadolu Agency
A Paris court of appeals has sentenced 15 suspects from two to seven years in prison in a case into the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front (DHKP/C).

The French court found the 15 suspects guilty of “establishing a gang with criminal intent” and “financing a terrorist organization.”

İlker Acalan, the alleged leader of the leftist organization’s French branch, was among those who were imprisoned for terms ranging between 2.5 and seven years.

The suspects were originally sentenced to between 18 months and seven years in jail by a Paris criminal court on Dec. 20, 2012. As part of the ruling, the Paris Anatolian Culture and Solidarity Association was shut down on accusations that it was linked to the organization.

The DHKP/C, one of Turkey’s most prominent far-left factions, is on the European Union’s list of outlawed terrorist organizations.
