Over 1,300 killed in terror incidents in 10 years, minister says

Defense Minister İsmet Yılmaz has told Parliament that 914 members of security forces and 449 civilians were killed between Jan. 1, 2002 and March 8, 2012 in terror incidents.The security forces killed in terror incidents between 2002 and 2012 are composed of 94 police officers, 724 soldiers and 96 temporary village guards, said Yılmaz in response to deputies’ questions in Parliament.
Separately, Yılmaz said that 26,745 people have committed suicide in the past 10 years due to diseases, family problems, financial problems, negative relations and unsuccessful education. Yılmaz said social projects are needed to decrease suicide cases.
