Drillings for ore in Turkey will reach 400,000 meters this year, which is 10 times larger than the figures in the recent past, according to the head of the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA).

MTA’s annual drillings stood at only 25,000 meters 10 years ago, General Manager Mehmet Üzer said over the weekend while inspecting a site in the eastern province of Malatya. “With more drillings we aim at reducing the foreign dependency in mining,” he said, adding that searching for ore has improved scientifically. The search for metals is focused in Malatya, particularly in the town of Kuluncak, he also added. The total drilling there will reach 20,000 meters.
