Turkey’s former ambassador to Syria, Ömer Önhon, has been appointed deputy undersecretary at the Foreign Ministry headquarters, with a related decree being published in the Official Gazette on Dec. 28.

Önhon will likely be in charge of Middle East affairs, including the Syrian crisis. As part of the reshuffle, Turkey’s former Consul in Aleppo, Adnan Keçeci, was appointed as Turkey’s ambassador to Algeria. According to the decree, Turkey’s Ambassador in Bosnia-Herzegovina Ahmet Yıldız will be posted to Egypt as ambassador, Translation Department Director Vehbi Esgel Etensel will be sent to Guinea as ambassador and Prime Ministry Press and Public Relations Counselor Hasan Yavuz has been posted to Djibouti as ambassador.
