Number of tourists to Turkey on rise in May

The number of tourists visiting Turkey in May increased by 17.82 percent when compared to the same term last year, according to a report by the Culture and Tourism Ministry. Out of 809,190 people visiting Turkey in May, 232,652 were daily visitors.

The most visited city was Antalya, with a share of 37.14 percent and a total of 1,414,756 visitors. Antalya was followed by Istanbul with 1.59 million visitors, Muğla with 399,383 visitors, Edirne with 241,312 visitors, and Artvin with 178,405 visitors.

During the January-May term, the number of foreigners visiting Turkey reached 10,474 million, marking an 18.47 percent increase.

Of the visitors to Turkey in May, the largest proportion came from Russia, with 608,707 people. Russians were followed by Germans and Brits.
