Three policemen and three village guards were killed in clashes in the Bitlis and Hakkari provinces of southeastern Turkey, Dogan news agency has reported.

Operations began in the Kirikdağ village of Hakkari following a tip off, with clashes occurring between members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the security officers heading to the area.

Three policemen and three PKK members have been killed so far, according to reports.

Meanwhile, three guards were also killed in Bitlis, where security forces have been clashing with PKK members following an attack on an army unit.Three guards and one soldier were also wounded in the clashes
