A spectators’ stand in the Aegean province of Aydın collapsed during a college football match on May 5, leaving nine students injured.

The sheet metal stand was unable to sustain the weight of around 300 spectators watching a college tournament match between the Didim Vocational School and the Atça Vocational School of the local Adnan Menderes University, which was taking place on a pitch next to the Adnan Menderes Stadium.

After the stand collapsed in the 65th minute of the match, the student spectators fell down from a height of about two meters. Eight students were slightly injured and one was in a more critical condition, after he was trapped under the collapsed stand and other students fell unto him. Doctors do not consider his condition to be life-threatening.

The other injured students were all immediately taken to nearby hospitals after the incident.
