Mystery remains over Turkish teenager’s death

A 17-year-old girl has been found with heavy gunshot wounds in her chest in Istanbul’s Sarıyer district and died soon after in hospital.

The high school student was found unconscious in an empty area between two buildings after residents had heard gunshots. Paramedics and security officials arrived at the scene soon after, but after being taken to a nearby hospital she succumbed to her wounds and passed away.

Her boyfriend, his brother and his friend were all taken into custody after the incident. Witnesses have claimed that two suspects dumped the used bullet shells in a local park before running away.

Police investigations are ongoing to determine whether the teenager was murdered, or whether she committed suicide.
