HAKKARİ / BİNGÖL - Doğan News Agency
Security forces launched an operation against militants from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) following attacks yesterday against a military outpost and other base zones in the eastern province of Hakkari.

The militants attacked the Umurlu outpost by the Iraqi border in Hakkari’s Şemdinli district with rocket launchers and small arms at around 8:40 a.m. yesterday. Security forces then immediately responded to the attack, according to reports.

Another group of PKK militants also attacked a military base zone in Hakkari’s Çukurca district on the Iraqi border with mortars, but there were no injuries or fatalities.

Meanwhile, PKK militants also killed four members of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards during an attack in the country’s west, Iran’s Mehr news agency said April 25.

Gendarmerie Specialist Sergeant Kemal Özdoğan’s funeral was also held in his hometown of Elbistan in the southern province of Kahramanmaraş yesterday. The soldier was killed during an armed engagement in the eastern province of Bingöl’s Genç district over the past week. The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and EU.
